Nairobi Jiu-Jitsu Academy’s Ouhsummer Ali Abad aka “Ninja Turtle” made a spectacular debut in mixed martial arts at the Blood Warriors Championship in Kampala, Uganda, on November 23, 2024.

The Kenyan fighter faced the previously undefeated Ugandan fighter Sserunjoji Samson Viper aka “Apex Predator” of Fight Club Kampala who entered the fight with a perfect 4-0 MMA record – with the last three wins by knockout.

Prior to transitioning to MMA Sserunjoji held an impressive kick-boxing record of 18-3.

After a brief but exciting exchange on the feet in the highly anticipated co-main event that was held at Club Obligato, Ouhsummer, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) purple belt and the reigning East Africa BJJ Champion, quickly showcased his grappling superiority.

He successfully took Sserunjoji to the ground, where he controlled his opponent and locked in an armbar submission and forced the opponent to tap out in less than two minutes of the first round.

In addition to his extensive experience as a BJJ competitor, Ouhsummer also boasts a perfect 3-0 professional kickboxing record, further highlighting his versatility and striking ability.

The fight was widely regarded as the most exciting of the night, earning rave reviews from fans and boxing analysts on site.

Ouhsummer’s dominant performance not only marked an impressive start to his MMA career but also reinforced his status as one of East Africa’s most promising fighters across multiple combat sports disciplines.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-contact sport blending a wide range of fighting techniques from multiple martial arts disciplines.

It allows athletes to employ strategies and skills from boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, judo and more.

MMA fuses stand-up combat and ground fighting, which involves takedowns, submissions and controlling the opponent on the mat. This combination creates a multifaceted and highly strategic sport.

Ouhsummer is also an Assistant Head Instructor at the newly-opened Nairobi Jiu-Jitsu Academy, located on the third floor of New Muthaiga Mall, Thigiri Ridge, Westlands.

The martial arts school teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Self-Defence to children and adults of all skill levels.
