TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

Written by on August 23, 2018

So many times, we blame our actions on external factors. X did Y because he / she was drunk. A did B because he / she was going through some things. And so on and so forth. This is all cleverly avoiding being held responsible for ones own actions and really, it’s utter nonsense. Especially since we claim to be a “woke” generation. So are we woke only when it’s convenient for us? Are we woke when we make mistakes too or do we blame that on something else to excuse your own choices? Just how woke are we?

See, when a man is sexually inappropriate towards a woman, the excuse is, more often than not, he was drunk or inebriated or not in his right mind. When a woman is sexually inappropriate under the influence of alcohol, it makes her a (say it with me) loose woman. Alcohol excuses a man’s behavior but condemns a woman, and this is the biggest double standard of all. Because this way, men will continue to behave inappropriately towards women and still get exonerated but women will not get the same treatment. So when we strip the alcohol and intoxicants away, what is left? Aren’t you aware of what you are doing, when you are doing it and why you are doing it? Didn’t you make that choice yourself? And have you forgotten that every choice you make most certainly has consequences attached to it?

Our lives are the sum total of the choices we make. So if your constant choice is to blame it on the booze and not take responsibility, my friend either seek help or you are a lost cause. The one thing we have free reign of is our will and ability to choose what we see fit. Use that “superpower” wisely, because as sure as night follows day, there will be consequences to your choices. Whether they are long or short term, whether it’s immediate or takes a while. But nature’s scales must eventually balance. Take responsibility for your choices. Take responsibility for yourself.
