With Maroon 5 thought to be headlining the 2019 Super Bowl, talk turns to special guests – and new rumours suggest none other than Cardi B is in talks to join the band on stage.
Many music fans — especially those who dig hip-hop — weren’t exactly thrilled at the notion of bland pop-rockers Maroon 5 performing for the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2019.
And for good reason. The show is in Atlanta, which boasts one of the hottest hip-hop scenes on the planet. And Maroon 5 is about as far away from hip-hop — and Atlanta — as possible.
Now comes reports that Cardi B could be part of the Halftime festivities.
“Our sources say Cardi is in negotiations to perform her song with Maroon 5, ‘Girls Like You’ — and the main issue being discussed is whether or not CB gets a solo set. We’re told she’s getting a lot of offers to perform in early February … so she’s trying to make the best deal possible,” TMZ reports.
Last week it was claimed that Maroon 5 would be the ones performing at the Super Bowl following on from Justin Timberlake’s success last year.
‘The offer has been extended and they’ve pretty much accepted,’ a source told Us Weekly.
The Super Bowl halftime gig has long been a coveted one for the band’s frontman Adam Levine, 39, who told Howard Stern in 2015 that they, ‘very actively want to play the Super Bowl.’
