Drake beats the Beatles’ 1964 record for most US Top 10 hits in a year

The all-Spanish-language track premiered on the list a week ago, from one day of sales and streaming activity (and four days of airplay), as the single was released on Oct. 11.

“MIA” is Drake’s twelfth top 10 hit in the U.S. in 2018 alone, which now stands as the greatest number of top 10s in a single year, according to Billboard. Before this week, he was tied with legendary rockers The Beatles, who managed 11 such successes in the year they arrived in America, but now Drake owns this piece of chart history all to himself.

Of Drake’s dozen top 10s this year alone (he now claims 32 smashes throughout his career), three have gone to No. 1, and three see the hip-hop powerhouse supporting a lead artist (a practice that wasn’t nearly as popular when The Beatles were recording and releasing music) and two see Drake leading the charge with another artist alongside him.

It’s been a record-breaking chart year for Drake, who, at 29 weeks, has also became the artist to spend the most time at No 1 in a single year, beating previous record-holder Usher. MIA is his 32nd Top 10 hit, putting him behind only Madonna (38) and the Beatles (34) in the all-time list. He is currently touring the US, following the release of his fifth studio album Scorpion earlier this year.
