Kenyan elite athlete Eliud Kipchoge sure made Kenya proud

Kenyan elite athlete Eliud Kipchoge was the talk of the world after he won this year’s edition of the Berlin Marathon in a record breaking time of two hours, one ad 39 seconds smashing the previous record with a whooping 71 seconds set by fellow Kenyan marathoner Dennis Kimetto in 2014.

The win will see Kipchoge pocket some good amount of cash from the organizers of the event as well his sponsors who include Nike and Isuzu. Upon his return to the country, Kipchoge will be presented with a luxury Isuzu D-max double Cab that is estimate to be worth sh20 million, as promised by truck manufacturer Isuzu.

This was announced during the renewal of the partnership with the athlete as its brand ambassador a deal that was sealed a week before he flew to Germany, clearly confident knowing that he would break the set world record as challenged.

Kipchoge was celebrated in the whole world with the New York Times referring to him the Greatest Marathoner of all time after winning the race in a record time. It was a proud moment for Kenya as it scooped all the top three positions in the men’s race with Amos Kipruto and Wilson Kipsang coming in second and third respectively. Glady Cherono also completed the women’s race with a sterling performance of two hours, 18 minutes and ten seconds which is new record for women.

Kipchoge is expected to pocket over sh10 million from the marathon, sh5 million for winning the race and extra sh7 million for setting a new world record. Reports indicate that the marathoner will also be receiving sh100 million annually from his sponsors Nike which is a very lucrative deal for the 33-year old.
Athletics in Kenya has been a source of livelihood and source of pride for the country with its participation in different races in the world with athletes get huge sums of money. Dubai Marathon is considered to be the most lucrative as winners cash in sh20 million with a token of sh10 million for those breaking existing world record.
