Singer Amani is now a born again Christian. She first made the announcement on her Instagram account on Thursday catching her fans off guard.
But according to the singer, it has been a process and it took almost six years till she finally gave in.
“For a longtime I wasn’t happy,” said Amani in an interview with Citizen Extra Trends and Entertainment Show.
“I could be in the backstage at a function waiting to perform, but I was like: ‘God get me out of this. I am exhausted and tired; I don’t think I can do this anymore.’ Initially, I thought it was the entertainment industry which was taking a toll on my life. I convinced myself that taking a short break from it would leave me feeling better. It never got better.”
Amani now joins a long list of other secular artists who turned on a new leaf and focused on making inspirational music. Most of these artists who have rebranded are doing well. Amani, who hasn’t had a hit in several years, is yet to show us how she’ll fair once she starts making such music.
At first, she wasn’t sure about it, but after taking her time, she came to see that God was calling her.
“I was like: ‘I really do not want to do this’. I just wanted to renew my relationship with God. There is no major trigger experience in life, which led to my salvation; it was a process, and it started way back in 2012,” she said.
