Blast From The Past: When ‘Chaguo La Teeniez’ Reigned Supreme
Written by kingbeestar on April 8, 2020
Award shows are a great way to keep showbiz in relentless blossom. In their quest to get feted, artistes rise to the occasion with epic material that pits them against their counterparts. With its cutthroat nature, the scene has seen major holders if its stake sometimes engage in vendettas pertaining to who was deserving of an accolade more than the other.
One such award show was Chaguo La Teeniez Awards,Kenya’s very own answer to the USA’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. The popular award show was the it-gala and a hit with school-going teenagers whose votes would count in deciding the winners of the awards. Held in April every year, the show saw and was instrumental in establishing careers for Kenyan artistes of the early 00s a la Prezzo,Redsan,Jua Cali and Amani to name but a few. The only other award show that remotely came to Chaguo‘s proximity in popularity was Kisima Awards, another show of great repute.
Since Chaguo La Teeniez faded into oblivion, the Kenyan scene has not been the same.
