The Royal Family, through the official Royal Family website and social media, has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms including St Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica, Canada, Australia, The Bahamas, Tuvalu, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, died today at the Balmoral Castle, one of the residences of the British Royal Family.
At 96, The Queen’s reign lasted 70 years, making her the longest serving British Monarch having ascended the throne back in 1952 when her father, King George VI, died.
Queen Elizabeth, then Princess Elizabeth, was on a trip in Kenya, aged 25, when she first got wind of the news that she would be Queen.
She was coronated on June 2, 1953 and would go on to celebrate her Silver, Golden, Diamond and Platinum jubilees.
Kenyans have joined in sending their condolences to the Royal Family as the world comes to terms with the Queen’s demise.
