Taylor Swift Gets Accused Of Ripping Off Beyonce’s Coachella Stage Aesthetic

Written by on May 2, 2019

Taylor Swift is on the receiving end of backlash..again! After her opening performance at the Billboard Music Awards,a lot of supposed rip-offs were singled out by the evidently eagle-eyed viewers. Her colorful performance of her newly-released single with Brendon Urie drew lots of comparisons to another iconic performance, and the evidence is not too disguised!

The onset of the performance featured a marching band, something quite reminiscent of Beyonce’s much renowned 2018 Coachella  performance. The singer almost instantly got called out for blatantly ripping off Beyonce’s performance and having the nerve to pay homage while at it. This is not the first time that Taylor has been accused of borderline cultural appropriation. When her Shake It Off video dropped a few years back,it drew criticism owing to the regalia Taylor donned;a handful gold chains she flaunted as she twerked alongside a horde of black dancers. The hip-hop community didn’t take it lying down, and Taylor was blamed for perpetuating black stereotypes to a white demographic.

Beyonce, too, has in the past been accused of ripping off other artistes’ work. Billboard once published a list of alleged infringements, including songwriting credits, dance and visuals.
