Is MTV Scrapping Off Michael Jackson’s Name From The Video Vanguard?

Written by on August 1, 2019

The ripple effect stemming from Michael Jackson’s alleged unbecoming behaviour as depicted in Leaving Neverland is far from over. Reports abound about MTV’s plans to scrap from his name off the Video Vanguard Award, which has been synonymous with his name since 1991,three years after he was bestowed with it.

The Video Vanguard Award was incepted in 1984 and its first recipient was the legendary David Bowie. It is equivalent to the Lifetime Achievement Award, and is awarded to artistes who have made tremendous contributions to the music through music videos. Recent recipients include Rihanna and Pink, and Jennifer Lopez in 2018-the first artiste of Latin descent to win the Vanguard!

After all the dirty laundry as regards Michael Jackson was aired in Leaving Neverland,MTV reportedly plans on scrapping off his name completely. This is obviously in their quest to distance themselves from the name of the embattled late singer. As for how that turns out,we will have to wait and see. The 2019 VMAs air August  26.
