Backlash Over Beyonce’s ‘Homecoming’ Snub At The 2019 Emmys

Written by on September 16, 2019

Beyonce is no stranger to utterly pronounced snubs at major award ceremonies, and this last weekend was no exception. At the just concluded Emmys, Beyonce’s million-dollar Homecoming documentary lost out in all the six categories it was nominated for,and to-indisputably-lesser films.

The Homecoming documentary has hitherto been one of the most revered documentaries of 2019,owing to its larger than life insight into what it took Beyonce to gear up for her historic Coachella performance. Iconic because Queen Bey went down the history books as the first black woman to headline Coachella, and while at it,she put on quite a show. The marching band,high-octane choreography, cameos from fellow Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams..the works!

Despite all the hallmarks of a legendary docu, Homecoming still shied away from snagging an accolade at the Emmys. The latter which honors artistic and technical achievements in American television. Beyonce’s Homecoming was up for 6 accolades, and lost out in all of them. One especially controversial loss was the Best Variety Special category that James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney, which came as a shocker to a lot of people as it arguably cannot hold a candle to Homecoming.

In a rather interesting twist, Beyonce couldn’t apparently be any less bothered. Queen Bey and ABC network  Sunday night jointly announced a surprise documentary dubbed Making The Gift, an in-depth look at the making of The Lion King’s compilation album. The docu will premier later today.
