TEMS WINS 2022 BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT, BEST NEW ARTIST AND BEST COLLABORATION.

The 2022 BET Awards celebrated Black excellence in music, culture and sports. The event took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 26.
The host was the incomparable award- winning actress Taraji P. Henson. The night was surely fully packed with surprises from the amazing list of performers and presenters.
The red carpet debut was spectacular, stars showed off their fashions; from casual to cutting edge and beyond. African musicians including Nigeria’s Wizkid, Tems and Fireboy DML, South Africa’s Major League DJz and the DRC’s Fally Ipupa were among the nominees for the 2022 BET Awards.
Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly called Tems, won the Best International Act at the BET Awards 2022. The talented singer beat Fireboy, Dave from the UK, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Little Simz from the UK, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc from France.
“Thank you BET, thank you everyone,” Tems said when she received the award. “This award is for Wizkid, and I just want to say that a great thing is happening from Africa right now. The light is on everyone there. This is dedicated to Africa and Nigeria.”
Tems scored three nominations, including Best Collaboration alongside Wizkid for the remix of ‘Essence’, Best International Act and Best New Artist. Winning off the competition from DJ Khaled’s ‘Every Chance I Get’, Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Family Ties’, Doja Cat’s ‘Kiss Me More’, Drake’s ‘Way 2 Sexy’ and Bia’s ‘Whole Lotta Money (Remix)’.
“Where I’m from in Lagos, this is a dream,” she said. “As you’re watching me, imagine yourself as me, you are meant to be here, too.”
