KANYE WEST_MUDDIES IT UP AT BALENCIAGA FASHION SHOW
Written by Elizabeth Nyambura on October 4, 2022
Kanye West engaged in some high-fashion mudslinging this weekend in the City of Light. The Yeezy founder Kanye West has officially made his runway debut! Kanye West had his modeling debut, opening the “Mud Show” and sported an oversized flak jacket, leather trousers and a baseball cap with a hoodie.
Ye and a gaggle of models walked the runway in getups slathered in mud. The walls and parts of the floor were covered in a thick wash of black mud, while ahead was a mud pit, 20 feet deep and cavernous, with numerous pools and puddles of water.
Kanye’s ex, Kim Kardashian, did not join, but all four of their kids were there. Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner were also in attendance … plus other stars including Offset, Naomi Campbell and Salma Hayek.
Khloe, Kylie and North were seen together backstage. Christine Quinn and Alexa Demie watched from the sidelines too.
Bella Hadid also hit the runway. Her face was made to look bruised and beaten as she walked with a baby carrier strapped to her body … again, covered in mud.
“The unusual setting at Parc des Exposition was “a metaphor for digging for the truth and being down to earth,” Denma, Balenciaga’s creative director, told Vogue ahead of the show. He added, “Individualism in fashion is downgraded to pseudo trends dictated by a post in stories of some celebrity of the moment… fashion in its best case scenario should not need a story to be sold to someone… let us let everyone be anyone.”
“I’ve decided to no longer explain my collections and verbalize my designs, but to express a state of mind,” Demna added. “Fashion is a visual art and all we need is for it to be seen through someone’s eyes. You either like it or not.”
Demna went on to say, “Let us let everyone be anyone and make love not war.” The timing is interesting, given Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
