Eden Hazard Announces Retirement From International Duty

Written by on December 8, 2022

A couple of days after being eliminated from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Eden Hazard announced that he would no longer be taking up calls to represent Belgium.

Hazard took to Instagram earlier today and wrote, “A page turns today. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your unparalleled support.”

The 31-year-old thanked his fans for all the happiness shared since 2008. “I have decided to put an end to my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you” He signed out.

This marks the end of a long, long 14-year stint representing Belgium in various competitions. His highest achievement? Finishing 3rd at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Eden Hazard managed 33 goals in 126 appearances for the Red Devils. Only Romelu Lukaku has more. The Real Madrid winger also captained his home country 56 times.

Having won the Premier League and the Europa League twice, the FA Cup and EFL Cup while at Chelsea, his 2019 move to La Liga has not turned out the way everyone hoped it would.

Despite Real Madrid’s success, Hazard has only managed 6 appearances this season. Injuries upon injuries have kept the Belgian out of the pitch.

This is how fans, teammates and clubs reacted to Hazard’s retirement.
