A short video clip of First daughter Charlene Ruto appearing to serve herself “mayai pasua” has reignited talk about her hustle while in college.
The undated video shows Charlene perfectly handling the egg, and adding kachumbari.
She does all this while in discussion with another individual who is off the camera screen.
Her relaxed nature has also been noted by netizens.
Back in 2020, the First daughter raised a storm with her account of selling smokies and eggs as a hustler at University.
The smokies and kachumbari were a way for her to sustain herself like others do in college.
Charlene graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Daystar University in 2015.
At the time, Ruto was serving as Deputy President of Kenya in their first term with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
She said the smokies were the only thing that were selling at the time.
“I was in Daystar University, and smokie kachumbari was the only thing that was selling, I was encouraged to take up the small business,” she said.
A section of the audience is heard in the video dismissing her claims saying “hiyo ni uongo, aaai mtoto wa deputy president? Hapo umetubeba ujinga”.
After trending, she later defended her account.
“I was somewhere talking to some university students. We were talking about savings and investment, so I thought to encourage them and tell them my story when I used to sell smokie kachumbari at Daystar,” she said.
“Kuna witnesses. Ni ukweli. Ni vile tu sina picha kutoka hiyo time (There are witnesses. It is true. It’s just that I don’t have photos from then).”
She thanked those who defended her when the accusations of her “lying” came up.
A day ago, she attended a blood donation drive.
“Principal Secretary of Medical Services, Harry Kimutai officially commissioned me, H.E. Caroline Wangamati, Aisha Dafalla, and Kennedy Sanya as Kenya Blood Ambassdors this Monday.
We also flagged off 150,000 blood bags to the 7 different regions. It is an honour to represent the young people and serve Kenyans through this role. Asanteni sana!”
