Kalle Rovanpera, a member of Toyota Gazoo Racing, won the WRC Safari Rally Kenya 2024 championship.
He won his second Safari Rally Kenya title on Sunday, leading a Toyota Gazoo Racing 1-2 finish with a commanding performance.
His teammate Takamoto Katsuta finished second, while Adrien Fourmaux of M-Sport Ford secured the final spot on the podium.
Rovanpera was in the lead since Friday morning and secured victory with a significant margin of 1 minute and 37.8 seconds. This win marked his 12th career triumph.
“It’s always special to win here. Like they say in Africa: the car in front is always a Toyota,” remarked Rovanpera.
On Friday, Katsuta dominated all the challenging stages around Lake Naivasha, extending his lead to almost one minute.
Although Thierry Neuville was initially a threat, his Hyundai i20 N faced a fuel system issue during the first stage at Soysambu, which hindered his challenge and allowed Katsuta to secure the runner-up position ahead of Fourmaux.
On Sunday afternoon, the drivers navigated through Malewa, Oserengoni, and Hell’s Gate stages as the Safari Rally came to an end in Naivasha.
The WRC will now move towards asphalt for the forthcoming Croatia Rally, which is planned from April 18th to 21st, based in the capital city of Zagreb.
