Mejja reveals the secret behind his ‘Mtoto wa Khadija” phrase.

Veteran musician Mejja has disclosed the main reason that pushed him to use his famous nickname “Mtoto wa Khadija”.

The 37-year-old star whose real name is Major Nameye Khadija revealed how it was tiring for him to have a female surname at the beginning and this would always lead to an array of questions and mockery sent his way.

“Mama yangu ndio kila kitu hata mimi hujiita mtoto wa Khadija kwa sababu kila time nikitoa ID lazma mtu atoe comment ya surname yangu…kwanza hawa security guards,” said Okwonkwo.

He further revealed that the constant questioning started getting to him and he decided to incorporate the surname into his music so he could get acquitted to it and minimize the number of questions and mockery.

“So ndio nkaanza kuweka kwa ngoma zangu ndio ukiniona usiniulize hiyo swali.” Added the former Calif Records musician.

The ‘Usiniharibie Mood’ musician went on and poured out his admiration for his beloved mother.

He shared that he plans on making his mom feature in his upcoming album and also making her the cover art as well.

He finished off by highlighting his gratitude to his mother for all the support she had given him and for making him the fine gentleman that we all know and love.

“Yeye ndio amenilea mpaka mahali nimefika, so my upcoming album nataka kuita jina yake na pia yeye ndio atakuwa cover.”

 Mejja comes from a family of four and was born and brought up in Majengo slums in Nyeri.
