Bongo singer Lady Jay Dee no longer grants interviews to the media over what she calls silly questions.
While addressing this position, the Siku Hazingandi singer told Wasafi Media on Tuesday, May 28 that she got fed up with what appears to be an agenda to drive her into gossip.
“Niliblock hiyo kitu. Mpaka mtu anifikie kufanya interview we mwenyewe ujishukuru “
(I blocked that thing until someone thanked themselves for getting to interview me)
She informed the media house that this position is what has led to respect from the media.
“There was a time until now when the media did not ask important questions. You might have gone there to talk about your issues only for them to start asking about another person’s issues.”
JayDee pointed out that she will remain elusive.
“I tell them I don’t just do interviews. What if I don’t have something to talk about? What will I come and talk about? It means I will be forced to talk about things that already passed. I blocked such questions.” she argued.
Lady Jaydee is often referred to as the Queen of Bongo Flava, she has made significant contributions to the East African music scene.
Over the years, she has garnered more than 30 awards, including multiple Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards (KTMA) for best female artist.
Her accolades also include an M-Net Award for best female artist of the year and a BBC Radio Music Award for best song of the year for her hit “Distance.”
Lady Jaydee holds the East African record for the fastest-selling album, having sold nearly one million copies within just a few days of its release.
Beyond her music career, she has ventured into online media with “Wine Talk,” a chat series where she engages in discussions on social matters with friends.
