Congratulatory messages have begun to pour in for former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho after President William Ruto nominated him to the Cabinet.

Ruto announced Joho’s nomination to the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs during his address to the nation on Wednesday.

Shortly after the announcement, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir sent a message congratulating his predecessor.

“On behalf of the people of Mombasa, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Hassan Ali Joho on your nomination as Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs in the government of Kenya,” he tweeted.

Nassir stated that Joho’s dedication, leadership and vision have been recognised, adding that the people of Mombasa have no doubt that he will excel in his new role upon confirmation by the National Assembly.

“Your passion for public service and your ability to bring positive change will undoubtedly make a significant impact. Congratulations once again, and may your tenure as Waziri be filled with success and fulfilment,” Nassir added.

Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris took to her Twitter page and said;

At the same time, High Court Advocate Ahmednasir Abdullahi said, “With a dagger, Sultan is back!”

Other than political leaders, hundreds of Mombasa residents have taken to the streets to celebrate the nomination of former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho as a Cabinet Secretary.

In Mombasa, where Joho enjoys a fanatical following, hundreds of the residents converged at Treasury Square to celebrate his appointment.

The residents marched along Nkurumah road to Fontannela roundabout and back to Treasury Square singing praises to Joho.

“Simba is back! Joho hoyee,” the residents chanted as they marched along the streets.

Among others nominated on Wednesday are Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives), John Mbadi (National Treasury) and Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum), Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs), Stella Lang’at (Gender) and Rebecca Miano (Tourism).

Salim Mvurya (Trade), Alfred Mutua (Labour) and Justin Muturi (Public Service).
