Bobrisky breaks silence after prison release.

Written by on August 6, 2024

Bobrisky, a controversial socialite, brand influencer, and self-proclaimed fashion icon, has been released from prison after serving 4 out of 6 months of his sentence.

The 31-year-old Nigerian cross-dresser was arrested on April 4, 2024, after being found guilty of spraying and flaunting wads of new naira notes at the premiere of the film Beasts of Two Worlds on March 24, 2024.

The EFCC confirmed the news of his release in a statement on their Instagram page.

Following his release, Bobrisky warned others against mishandling currency, emphasising that non-violent crimes could lead to imprisonment, similar to his own experience.

“Don’t spray money, unless you’ll be a landlord inside Kirikiri. It’s not just about killing or any criminal activity, something light like this can take you there,” the cross-dresser said during a press interview.

Finishing up the controversial fashion icon highlighted, “I’m only focusing on my friends who were there for me, and I’m grateful. I’m not thinking about any other person,”

“Okuneye was charged by the EFCC on four counts of naira abuse, and he pleaded guilty before Justice A.O. Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos.

Justice Awogboro further instructed that the accused must serve his sentence in a male prison despite being a public transgender who has, over the years, claimed to be a woman.

Throwing money in the air is a sign of appreciation commonly done at Nigerian weddings and celebrations.

This is technically an offence, as the notes then fall to the ground where they can be trodden on before the celebrants’ team collects the money.

During the trial, Bobrisky said she hadn’t been aware of the ban. Until now, it has been rare for people to be prosecuted for it.

In February, a cisgender, heterosexual actress identified as Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin received a similar sentence for the same offence.”
