“Be versatile” rapper Prezzo clarifies rumours.

Veteran rapper, businessman, and reality TV star CMB Prezzo has addressed recent speculation about him being “born again.”

In Christian terminology, being “born again” refers to experiencing a spiritual renewal or transformation, where an individual sheds their old self and becomes a new creation in Christ.

This process includes repentance of sin and a professed faith in Jesus Christ, leading to a desire for righteousness and holiness—essentially, a spiritual rebirth.

Prezzo made headlines two months ago after attending Reverend Lucy Natasha’s church, the Empowerment Christian Church (ECC), where the church’s general overseer referred to him as her “spiritual son.”

However, the artist clarified that the situation was taken out of context. He stated that he had simply accompanied his mother to church, and there was nothing more significant to it.

According to the 44-year-old artist, born Jackson Ngechu Makini, he has always been spiritual and does not understand the drama surrounding his attendance at Natasha’s church.

In an interview with Shiku Gitau, he said, “The thing is, Prezzo is a big name. I just woke up like any other person and decided to go to church. I accompanied my mom, and the next day, I woke up trending. People saw me in church and automatically assumed, ‘Prezzo is saved… he has given his life to Christ.'”

He emphasized that no spiritual rebirth occurred, saying

“But when people say ‘Prezzo gave his life to Christ,’ it doesn’t make sense to me. I have always given my life to Christ… I think everyone has a moment when they decide to give their life to Christ. So, it was never stated, nor did I personally say that ‘nimeokoka’ (I’ve been saved).”

When asked if he sought salvation that day at church, Prezzo firmly denied it.

He noted, “Even in my upcoming album, the gospel song I performed is included. As an artist, you have to be versatile; you can’t confine yourself to just one genre. That’s why I try to cover all avenues. My album includes all types of songs—I have tracks for clubs, for church, and for women. I aim to be very versatile.”

Interestingly, his visit to the church came shortly after he publicly declared that he did not believe in organized religion, despite being raised in both Islam and Christianity.

“I’m not a Christian, I am not a Buddhist, I am not a Muslim,” the artist stated on August 24th.

Following his church visit, Reverend Natasha expressed her joy about his presence online. She had previously hinted at Prezzo being on a new path in life by sharing videos of them praying together. In a video, the veteran artist was seen sitting on Natasha’s chair, signing his name in a book while she stood next to him.

In her caption, Natasha wrote, “You’re stepping into a Season of blessings that no one can stop! Thank you, Prezzo @prezzo254, for visiting ECC Nairobi for our Sunday service with your mom. Let’s continue making an impact in our generation!”

Prezzo also shared a photo of himself with the reverend, writing, “A seed of today is a fruit of tomorrow. Y’all stay blessed.”
