Daddy Owen opens up after “Kusalimiwa” threats.

Veteran contemporary gospel musician, songwriter, and disability activist Daddy Owen is feeling unhappy.

He recently shared that since the holiday festivities, he has faced the wrath of many Kenyans, as his personal contacts have been shared online for critics to confront him—something that netizens have dubbed “kusalimiwa.”

According to the “Vanity” crooner, he has been receiving countless messages and calls criticizing him, with some accusing him of being a sellout for agreeing to perform at the national holiday ceremony led by President William Ruto.

However, he noted that some citizens, who took advantage of his number being shared online, were actually very courteous and respectfully sought to understand why the gospel artist agreed to perform at the national event.

“Jana nilisalimiwa na WAKENYA! Sema kusalimiwa! Gaitho shared my number so I could be greeted! I had the ultimate experience of being ‘off the hook!’

I used to think my phone was always busy, but yesterday I had a true definition of a busy phone! My phone was blowing up with calls, texts, WhatsApp messages, and a ton of Mpesa messages,” Daddy Owen shared on his X account while reflecting on this challenging experience.

He continued, “I decided to soak it all in and returned a few calls. Wow, the abuse was next level! But some were super understanding, and we had a great chat.”

Based on his experience with everyone who acted upon his number being made public, he summarised his interactions as follows:

– 30%: Pure abuse. Heavy insults!

– 20%: Calls from logical people wanting to understand why I performed. After speaking to them, they grasped the situation.

– 20%: Fans who were just excited to have my number.

– 20%: Requests for lunch (e.g., “Please send me some cabbage, bro… it’s tough out here”) or people with genuine problems. I had to send some help, and they were grateful.

– 5%: People trying to convince me that I did the right thing.

– 5%: Flash Gordon calls (people calling once and hanging up).

In the end, those who needed real communication got it. As for the rest? “SALAMU nilipata na nikapokea!” he concluded in his post.
