A small aircraft has crashed and caught fire in the Kwachocha region of Malindi.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the plane made a crash landing next to the Malindi-Mombasa Highway.
Reports indicate that there were no survivors from the crash.
Additionally, some accounts suggest that schoolchildren heading home may have been caught in the blaze.
There are also reports that two individuals riding a motorcycle were struck by the plane during its landing attempt.
The bodies of the victims, a man and a woman, were found beside the roadway near the wreckage.
The man’s body is face down, while the woman lies on her back with blood streaming from her head. Their motorcycle is located on the ground beside them.
The aircraft reportedly landed at a new hotel that was not yet open, close to several nearby motorcycles.
Video footage shared with NRG Radio shows that parts of nearby buildings along the highway have also caught fire.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and ambulances, are at the scene, causing significant traffic congestion along the busy highway.
The cause of the crash and the number of people aboard the plane remain unclear, and authorities have not yet released any statements regarding the incident.
In the past year alone, there have been three reported plane crashes, including one in April that resulted in the death of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla and nine other military officers.
