Rev. Jesse Mwai – “Tattoos will not send you to hell.”

Rev. Jesse Mwai, a senior pastor at CITAM Karen, has sparked interesting reactions after claiming that people with tattoos will not go to hell.

In an undated video he shared, he stated: 

“Reggae and hip-hop are music genres, and they can even be used to worship God. People in these genres are happy, and they will go to heaven. We impose unnecessary restrictions where they shouldn’t exist. We make Christianity overly legalistic.”

He also addressed the topic of Christians with tattoos, clarifying that he is not advising anyone to get one. 

“Tattoos will not send you to hell. I am not suggesting that you start getting tattoos from tomorrow. They do not contribute to your Christianity, nor do they make you any less spiritual. In some cultures, tattoos are commonplace. It’s a non-issue in terms of Christianity.”

Leviticus 19:28 warns, “You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.”

Most Kenyans appreciated the pastor’s unique perspective, while others shared cheeky remarks in various comment sections.
