Arsenal secured a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby on Wednesday night.
The Gunners completed a league double over Spurs, thanks to an own goal from Dominic Solanke and a fantastic strike from Leandro Trossard in the first half.
Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the match from the very beginning. Although the scoreline suggests a close contest, it was anything but.
Arsenal were the superior team, and Declan Rice praised one of his teammates for an outstanding performance during the derby.
Rice compared Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly to a Tottenham legend.
At just 18 years old, Myles Lewis-Skelly became the youngest Arsenal player to start a North London Derby since Cesc Fabregas nearly 20 years ago.
He is regarded as one of the finest young talents in the country, and this season, he has delivered several impressive performances.
However, his display against Tottenham was by far his best.
Lewis-Skelly appeared unfazed by the occasion, demonstrating remarkable composure on the ball.
He confidently took on Spurs players and received a well-deserved standing ovation from the home fans.
Rice, who had an excellent game, was genuinely impressed by Lewis-Skelly’s performance, comparing him to Tottenham hero Mousa Dembele.
He said on TNT Sports: “The young boy Myles is just unbelievable. What he showed tonight at 18 years old was ridiculous.
It’s scary! The 18-year-olds nowadays play without fear. He has that Mousa Dembele trait, using his body to maneuver away from challenges.
Sometimes it may seem risky, but to showcase that personality and character at 18 is honestly unbelievable.”
Myles Lewis-Skelly’s statistics against Tottenham are remarkable. It’s challenging for any 18-year-old to play in the Premier League, let alone in the high-pressure environment of a North London Derby.
However, Lewis-Skelly made it look effortless.
The Hale End graduate recorded 48 touches and successfully completed 30 of his 32 attempted passes, achieving an impressive 94 per cent passing accuracy.
He made four tackles, and two clearances, and won all but one of his duels while not being dribbled past at any point in the match an impressive feat considering he faced Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson.
Lewis-Skelly has truly emerged on the big stage, and it’s clear that he has the potential to become a significant star for both Arsenal and England in the years to come.
