“The security is poor,” -Chira’s grandmother.

Brian Chira’s grandmother stirred up quite a buzz last week when she hinted at plans to sell her house and relocate.
The news did not sit well with a segment of TikTok users, who quickly reminded her that the house was built by fans and well-wishers in tribute to her late grandson.
They argued that selling it would be disrespectful and an insult to Chira’s memory.
A tug of war ensued on social media, with the TikTok community largely opposing the idea of selling the house, known as ‘Chira Clan,’ which holds significant meaning for them.
In a video shared on her account, the elderly woman expressed her desire to move into a container house, which infuriated netizens even more.
Before his tragic passing in March 2024, Brian Chira had committed to creating a comfortable home for his beloved grandmother.
Inspired by his vision, the TikTok community came together in August of that year, raising an impressive Sh. 8 million to support this cause.
With the funds raised, ‘Chira Clan’ was built and equipped with modern appliances and household goods.
Following the negative reactions, Chira’s grandmother clarified that her reasons for wanting to sell the house and relocate were not financially motivated.
She claims she still has a substantial amount of money left from the fundraiser, which she intends to use to educate Chira’s younger brother.
She expressed concerns about her current living situation, citing issues with the house’s location and overall security, noting that everyone knows where she lives.
“Security in this area is poor,” she explained, emphasizing that the house is situated far from the road and not easily accessible.
Additionally, she mentioned her feelings of loneliness, as fewer visitors come due to the remote location of the homestead.
“Money is the solution to many problems. When you have money, you can invest in good security. I’ve come a long way investing in the education of these kids, and many can attest to the rent arrears I faced in my previous home. Food is not a concern; my basic needs are met,” the late Chira’s custodian stated.
Regarding the money donated by her grandson’s fans, she assured Kenyans that the funds are still intact.
“We have school fees for Chira. I am not selling the house for financial reasons. I have enough food for my kids; clothing is not an issue.
The money you contributed is securely set aside for my grandson’s education. He will study and go to university,” she reiterated as she requested visits from her late grandson’s friends.
Despite her explanation, she faced ongoing criticism, with many expressing strong opposition to her plans.
TikTok users urged her to either enhance the security of the property with an electric fence or consider renting it out instead of selling it, arguing that the house stands as a tribute to Brian Chira.
Selling it would be akin to erasing a part of him from the community.
Netizens warned her against seeking assistance if she goes through with selling the house and urged Kenyans not to participate in any future fundraising efforts she might conduct for her relocation.
Due to the backlash, the grandmother was compelled to apologize to her late grandson’s fans, promising to improve the house’s security by adding a new wire fence.
Whether she will ultimately sell the house remains uncertain.
