Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 9th edition is set to celebrate the stellar feats that African artists have achieved in the past year. Afrima have unveiled the nominees for the 2022 edition of the annual awards. Musicians Bridget Blue, Nyashinski, Femi One, Bien Aime Baraza and Tanasha Donna are among the top nominations here in Kenya.

The West African region has the most nominations with 134 nominees, the Eastern African region comes in second with 69 nominations. The Songwriter of the year features the most Kenyan nominees including Bridget Blue, Hart the Band’s Mordecai ‘Dex’ Mwini, as well as Martin Obudho and Muthoka.

Bridget Blue Bridget Blue is a Kenyan based singer signed under the Kaka Empire record label that is owned by rapper King Kaka. She leads the nominations with three nominations for The Best Artist, Duo, Group in African RnB and Soul for her song ‘Goodbye’, Songwriter of the Year alongside cinematographer Jibril Blessing for the song ‘Woman’ and Best Female Artist in Africa Inspirational Music for the song ‘Woman’ where she will face fellow Kenyan Janet Otieno.

Nyashinski has two nominations with rapper Femi One for hit collabo ‘Properly’. These are, Best Male Artiste In Eastern Africa and Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Hip-hop. Femi One is nominated for another award in the Best Artist, Duo, Group in African Reggae, Ragga, Dancehall with the song ‘Hepi’ featuring King Kaka and Mbithi.

Sauti Sol star Bien Aime Baraza alongside Aaron Rimbui are also nominated in the Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa for ‘Bald Men Anthem’. Kenyan Rock band Rash have been nominated in the Best Artist, Duo, Group in African Rock.

The awards will be held on December 8th to 11th. Whereby, Public voting commences globally September 25th. Music has always been the fuel behind AFRIMA Awards and the body has consistently uplifted African music. It recognizes the time for Africa is now and the greatness still to come from African music.
