Sauti Sol’s ‘Suzanna’ Is A Nostalgic Trip Down Memory Lane

Written by on February 7, 2020

Sauti Sol’s first cut off of Midnight Train,Suzanna, is out and boy,is it a trip down memory lane!

The video opens with what looks like an opera house and quickly cuts to the inside. Bien,Savara,Chimano and Polycarp are seen on stage decked up in vintage 70s and 80s costumes performing for the crowd. The soul train-themed flick instantly serves nostalgia as the crooners sing their hearts out with wigs on their heads,an ode to the voluminous hairstyle typical of the aforementioned decades.

The lyrics are thought-provoking as they come. What to say with the critical undertones of lines like: Silicone on your bum, shake what your doctor gave you! The boys incorporate the feel-good tone of the song while seemingly addressing the prevailing state of this crop of social media savvy generation, hooked on going by the latest trends ,from going under the knife to donning Brazilian weaves.

The video is also utterly reminiscent of Migos and Drake’s chart-topping Walk It Talk It video.
