Addidas and Kanye’s ‘fight’ comes to an end.

Written by on October 30, 2024

Adidas has concluded its conflict with Kanye West regarding the antisemitic comments he made in 2022, which disrupted the collaboration between the sports brand and the rapper’s “Yeezy” line.

At that time, Adidas halted the collection and began selling off Yeezy stock at wholesale prices

However, on Tuesday, the company announced it had reached a settlement with West, bringing an end to all legal proceedings between them.

“There are no more open issues, and there is no money going either way,” Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden stated during a conference call.

He added, “There were tensions on many issues, but both parties agreed that we don’t need to fight anymore.” Gulden described the issues with West as “belonging to the past.”

He explained that conflicts like this involve provisions, legal opinions, negotiations, and settlements, and this agreement marks the conclusion of those disputes.

“No one owes anything to anybody anymore. Whatever happened is history,” he said.

The end of this partnership has left Adidas with Yeezy stock valued at around €1.2 billion (£840 million), with the brand selling products in batches and donating the proceeds to NGOs, including its newly launched anti-discrimination foundation.

The company expects to sell off the remaining Yeezy stock by the end of 2024.

This decision to move on contrasts sharply with Adidas’s stance in 2022, when the company stated it does “not tolerate antisemitism or any other form of hate speech.

” At that time, it also remarked, “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous, violating the company’s values of diversity, inclusion, mutual respect, and fairness.”

Adidas and West began their collaboration in 2014, creating a highly successful sportswear brand.

Demand for Yeezy products remained strong even after the controversy, with many Yeezy sneakers performing well in the resale market, sometimes selling for hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

West faced account suspensions on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) for a series of antisemitic remarks made in October 2022.

He reiterated these claims in various interviews and podcasts over the following months.

In December of that year, West appeared on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ show, InfoWars, where he expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler.

The rapper, who is now separated from Kim Kardashian, has publicly discussed his struggles with bipolar disorder for years.
