Prolific radio presenter and multi-award-winning digital content creator Azziad Nasenya has opened up about her struggles with mental health, revealing that this year has taken quite a toll on her.
Despite these challenges, 2024 has also been a great year for the 24-year-old, bringing her abundant blessings and new opportunities.
In a video posted on her TikTok page, Azziad shared that she had been hospitalised for nearly a month, with her specialist advising her to take time off social media and limit her phone usage during that period.
She explained, “I was not allowed to go outside under the doctor’s supervision, and for the past two to three weeks, I have not been on my phone.”
This update was her way of informing fans about her recent absence.
She noted that her mental state had deteriorated to an alarming degree, making isolation necessary.
Azziad emphasised the importance of discussing mental health issues openly, stating that they should not be a source of embarrassment, despite the stigma surrounding them.
She expressed that experiencing low moments is a part of life that should be acknowledged.
“I have not posted, I have not been on WhatsApp, I have not done anything because it was necessary. It was one of the dangers to me.
I was taking care of my mental health. It has been a rollercoaster; it has been a ride. I’m sharing this to remind you that it is normal. It is life,” Azziad added candidly.
In closing, she offered an apology to anyone she may have unintentionally offended, highlighting how tumultuous this year has been for her.
She stressed the importance of slowing down and taking breaks when necessary to avoid the heaviness that comes with burnout.
“When you need to take a break to work on yourself, please do,” Azziad advised.
She summarised her experiences by saying, “This has been a crazy year. I encountered many wins and many downs; I made both good and bad decisions—good financial mistakes and bad financial mistakes.
I’ve found both good friends and bad friends, and in the process of trying to find myself, I discovered people who went out of their way to help me.”
