Nigerian music sensation Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, is venturing into the world of football by launching his own academy.
This initiative is taking place in Nigeria, a country known for its thriving sports scene.
The academy will have state-of-the-art training facilities in key cities, including Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.
Burna Boy recently made an announcement revealing the details of his project, which has garnered attention from both the music and sports communities.
Infographics outlining the vision and operational structure of the academy were released online this Monday, giving a sneak peek of the program aimed at nurturing young talent.
The academy is intended for aspiring footballers aged 4 to 15, with additional programs available for older participants aged 16 to 21.
The academy’s website outlines a mission that emphasises not just football skills, but overall development.
“We aim to create an environment where young people can learn the fundamentals of football while integrating education, discipline, and techniques to achieve excellence both on and off the field.”
Furthermore, the academy emphasizes the important role of parental involvement in the sports journey and stresses the significance of integrating sports education with academic success.
The academy’s website showcases prominent partnerships with prestigious English clubs such as Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as Championship side Watford.
In addition, Scottish clubs like Hearts and Hamilton have also joined the roster, demonstrating the academy’s extensive network.
In Lagos, the academy has established two training centers in the Lekki and Surulere areas, as well as facilities in Abuja and Port Harcourt.
Their well-structured program includes three training sessions per week, each lasting two hours and focused on developing essential football skills.
Interestingly, there are rumors that the academy has been operating discreetly before this online reveal, as indicated by their website showing the results of seven friendly matches, with four wins, two losses, and one draw.
