Ciara’s Iconic Debut Album Turns 15!

Written by on September 29, 2019

Ciara’s iconic debut and arguably the biggest release of 2004 ‘Goodies’ just turned 15 years! The classic release came out when the then little known Ciara was only 18. Produced by renowned producers like Lil John and Jazze Pha,the album surpassed the prevailing expectations of a teenage Atlanta native with popstar aspirations.

At a time when the Crunk RnB genre was exponentially gaining popularity especially with its pioneer Lil John, Ciara was bound to be the first female singer to take on that genre. Unbeknownst to anyone, she would be instrumental in popularising it with her groundbreaking debut. Goodies, the title track and lead single, went ahead to top the Billboard Hot 100 for a record 7 weeks, the longest-running debut for a female artiste since 1977. No mean feat. The video showed CiCi do what would later be her signature move dubbed ‘The Matrix’ and all other kinds of her hitherto characteristic high-octane choreography.

The album spawned more hit singles like ‘Oh’ and ‘1 2 Step’ and went on to sell 5 million records worldwide, while establishing the star that is Ciara. The singer is currently on her Beauty Marks tour in support of her 7th studio album.
