Prolific Kenyan singer-songwriter and music producer Njerae was recently signed by Universal Music Group East Africa (UMG EA).

The fast-rising musician, known for her modern R&B and contemporary Afro-pop sounds, often incorporates her mother tongue, Kikuyu, into her lyrics and is thrilled about this new opportunity.

In an interview with Dennis Milimo, Njerae reflected on her incredible musical journey over the past year and what her signing with such a prestigious music group means to her.

“I have had an amazing year… amazing, amazing, amazing. From where I started at the beginning of the year to now, my streams have tripled in an insane way. I’m very happy,” she said gleefully.

Njerae, who is a protégé of Sauti Sol and graduated from Sauti Academy, added,

“The highlight of this year for me is having my own show! Being able to organize my own sold-out concert was a huge accomplishment. And getting signed to UMG is incredible. Overall, this year has been wonderful, and I’m so happy. The fans have been supporting me all the way, and I just feel so blessed.”

Discussing her new deal with Universal Music and her current workload, she shared,

Definitely, there is a lot more work now as a signed artist compared to when I was an independent artist, but I am reaping the benefits. I can see the fruits of my hard work, and I am very happy.”

Njerae also revealed that she has been working on multiple projects and is excited to announce that she has completed her work for 2025.

“Next year, I’m coming to wow you all with back-to-back soulful hits,” she said enthusiastically. “The plans are all set.”

When asked about any exciting international collaborations her fans can anticipate, the ‘Valhalla’ crooner mentioned, “Expect an EP featuring some really cool names, both local and international artists.

I’m just very excited for you all to see and listen to what I have been working on; it’s a completely different vibe.

She playfully noted that she has made quite a bit of money this year. “Enough to buy new shoes… I wear expensive shoes,” the vibrant young artist added.

UMG EA signed Njerae on August 19, 2024, and has also been appointed as the Altè ambassador of Kenya.

At the time of the announcement, the artist remarked, “Being signed to UMG is one of the most glamorous aspects of a musician’s lifestyle.

However, I assure my fans that I still intend to work even harder to produce even bigger hits.”
