The CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board Ezekiel Mutua, has advised artists to remain humble while receiving gigs and enjoying success.
He began by posting on his Facebook page.
“To our artists, when your star is shining bright and you are a household name, be humble. It’s important to uphold humility and integrity. When your brand is at the peak and you are getting gigs everywhere, when your fans love you so much and exhibit insane adoration, do not be carried away by the fame and become reckless.”
He further advised artists to be cautious about their online presence, as certain posts can harm their reputation.
“Mind the things you say or post on social media. You can destroy your brand with clout chasing and pride, then the same fans will turn against you and avoid you like the plague,” he wrote.
Ezekiel concluded by encouraging artists to seek mentorship to help them navigate their careers wisely.
“Seek mentorship and have responsible and mature managers who can guide you to use your influence positively,” he advised
Some of his followers agreed with his sentiments and this is what they had to say;
Peter Kioko: Very tivmely. It’s important to seek mentorship, especially for mature artists. Guardian Angel, Wilberforce Musyoka, Evelyn Wanjiru, among others, know how to tap into staying relevant for long.
Jane Muchunu: The Doctor’s advice is the best… you’re great, Sir.
Nehemiah Muyeshi: Case in example? And such good advice should come in time directly to the culprit before it’s too late. Anything happening after the victim has defied advice is a lesson itself. Talk to such people before they choose to take or leave it and fall. Sometimes they lack mentorship and guidance and are drunk with fame. Prevention is better than cure
