Harry Kane has made history by surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record for the most goals scored by an Englishman in the UEFA Champions League.
With his 30th goal, Kane equalled Rooney’s record and then added two more to surpass the former Manchester United player.
Kane’s milestone moment for Bayern Munich
Kane scored his 30th goal with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
He then added another goal in Bayern Munich’s latest Champions League match.
The goal came from a penalty awarded for a foul on Aleksandar Pavlovic, which Kane confidently converted.
This was Kane’s ninth goal in just 13 Champions League appearances for Bayern Munich, adding to the 21 goals he scored during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane later scored two more goals against Zagreb, bringing his total to 32 goals in the UEFA Champions League, completing his hat-trick.
Rooney’s record and Kane’s pursuit
Wayne Rooney set the record with 30 Champions League goals, all scored during his time at Manchester United.
Rooney also provided 21 assists in 85 appearances for the club.
Kane matched that feat in significantly fewer matches, however, unlike Rooney, the England captain has yet to lift the coveted Champions League trophy or any other major title.
With more games to come, it remains to be seen if he will be able to lift one day lift the major European honour.
