President William Ruto commended the government security agencies for protecting Kenya and its people during Tuesday’s anti-Finance Bill protest.
“I thank our security officers who were on duty today for applying themselves to the best of their abilities, in the defence of Kenya and its people,” Ruto said.
The Head of State further assured Kenyans of beef-up security saying “he has directed all the organs of the national security to deploy all measures to thwart any attempts by dangerous criminals to undermine the security and stability of the country.”
“I assure the nation, that the Government has mobilised all the resources at the nation’s disposal to ensure that a situation of this nature, will not recur again, at whatever cost,” Ruto said.
“As the people of Kenya go to bed tonight, I give you my assurance that your security, that of your families and property, remains my utmost priority.”
During the Tuesday protest, 10 people were reportedly killed by anti-riot police.
At least three protesters were shot outside Parliament Buildings during a clash with the police.
The protest was against the Finance Bill. Four others were injured and taken to the hospital by ambulances, according to Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei.
Three protesters were feared dead as they approached Parliament Buildings, and another group broke down a gate near the Senate.
A police truck was set on fire outside the parliament. Members of parliament were evacuated as the group confronted the police.
