“I’m afraid to love cause you’ll leave”- Dr. Ofweneke.

Written by on August 22, 2024

Comedian Dr. Ofweneke, well-known for his humour and charismatic presence as an MC, recently opened up about the end of his second marriage to Christine Tenderess.

He revealed the emotional challenges he faced during that difficult period in a candid confession during an interview on his YouTube channel where he hosted fellow media personality Willis Raburu.

Reflecting on his past, the father of 3 shared how he questioned God after his second marriage fell apart, feeling disheartened despite his efforts to be a supportive partner and a responsible father.

“I told God, ‘Again? I’ve tried doing everything right. I’ve been supportive, prayerful, and diligent as a baby daddy. Even with my ex-wife, I’ve made sure everything is in order. But still, this marriage is failing. How can I stand before people as Dr. Ofweneke and speak to men with authority?'” he recalled.

After the breakup, he took time to reflect and examine the patterns that may have contributed to his failed relationships.

He discovered that his fear of abandonment stemmed from his childhood experiences.

He revealed that his mother had left him when he was just a week old, and his father remarried when he was four.

Raised by various relatives and spending time working on farms in Western Kenya and Malava, Ofweneke didn’t grow up with his father or stepmother, which led to a deep-seated fear of being abandoned.

This fear influenced his relationships, causing him to emotionally distance himself to protect from potential heartbreak.

“I realized I’m a lover who, when I embrace you, gives 100 percent. But sometimes, I don’t give my all because I’m afraid that if I love too much, you’ll leave. If my mother left, then so can you,” he confessed.

Despite these fears, Ofweneke is now determined to fully love in his current relationship with Maryanne Baraza, whom he has been open with.

Moreover, Ofweneke acknowledged his struggle with alcohol, which had negatively impacted his relationships, and has now been sober for seven months.

Ofweneke’s relationship status drew public attention on July 7, 2024 when he introduced Maryanne as “Mrs. Ofweneke” on his ‘Mr. Right’ show, marking a new chapter in his personal life that stunned many of his fans.

Ofweneke was previously married to gospel singer Nicah The Queen, with whom he separated in 2016. They continue to co-parent their two children.
