Beatrice Chebet showcased her exceptional talent as she secured victory at the Cross Internacional de Itálica, a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold meeting, held in Seville on Sunday.
The double Olympic champion made a strong start in the race, which included several young competitors, quickly establishing a significant lead.
Her main challengers included Kazakhstan’s Deisy Jepkemei, Uganda’s Charity Cherop, and Kenyans Mercy, Diana, and Sharon Chepkemoi. However, Beatrice Chebet proved to be too powerful for them.
European 5000m bronze medallist Marta García, fellow Spaniard Carolina Robles, and Sarah Lahti also attempted to outsmart Chebet, but they could not match her calibre.
As the race entered its final stretch, Beatrice Chebet maintained her composure and unleashed an impressive 7:42 lap, ultimately securing her victory.
She crossed the finish line at 23:32, with Deisy Jepkemei taking second place at 23:59 and Charity Cherop completing the podium at 24:35.
Chebet expressed her excitement about competing against the younger athletes and finally achieving her first victory after two previous attempts that did not meet expectations.
“This was my third appearance here, and I managed to triumph at last, so I’m very satisfied. It was also wonderful to share the weekend with my young compatriots Mercy, Diana, and Sharon Chepkemoi,” said the world 5000m bronze medallist.
This year has been remarkable for Beatrice Chebet, starting with her title defense at the World Cross Country Championships.
She then continued her success at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, where she won the 5000m in a time of 14:26.98.
The 24-year-old also made headlines by breaking the 10,000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic, finishing in an astonishing 28:54.14.
Chebet later finished second to Faith Kipyegon in the 5000m at the Kenyan Olympic trials.
At the Olympic Games in Paris, France, Chebet made history by winning titles in both the 5000m and 10,000m.
She did not slow down after her Olympic success, as she ran a solo race to win the 5000m at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich, followed by securing first place in the 3000m at the Grand Prix Lombardia.
Chebet concluded her track season with a victory in the 5000m at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.
