In a shocking legal twist, rap moguls Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs are at the center of a lawsuit accusing them of raping a 13-year-old girl at a party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
The allegations, brought by an anonymous plaintiff on Sunday, have sparked a media frenzy, with Jay-Z vehemently denying the claims and accusing the attorney behind the suit of blackmail.
The lawsuit, part of a wave of legal troubles for Combs who is already facing federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges originally filed in October, accused Combs and an unnamed celebrity of assaulting the teen.
However, in an amended filing on Sunday, Jay-Z was named as the alleged accomplice.
The plaintiff claims she was drugged and assaulted by the two music icons after drinking a spiked beverage at an after-party held at a gated mansion in New York.
Jay-Z, 55, fired back with a fiery public statement, calling the allegations “idiotic” and denouncing the lawyer behind the suit, Tony Buzbee, as a fraud.
“This blackmail attempt will not work on me,” Jay-Z stated, adding, “My heart goes out to true victims of abuse, but I won’t let my name be dragged into this baseless scheme.”
The Brooklyn-born billionaire made it clear he has no intention of settling, alleging that Buzbee attempted to extort him with a demand letter.
“I’m not giving you a single penny,” Jay-Z declared. “I’m from a world where we protect children, not exploit false narratives for personal gain.”
Tony Buzbee, a high-profile Houston-based attorney, has filed at least 20 lawsuits against Combs, using a hotline, social media, and press conferences to solicit clients.
He accused Jay-Z of filing a preemptive, “frivolous” lawsuit to distract from the claims.
According to the plaintiff’s account, she was lured to the after-party by a limousine driver for Combs after unsuccessfully attempting to enter the VMAs.
The lawsuit describes the event as taking place at a large white mansion, where she claims she felt woozy after consuming a drink.
She alleges that after retreating to a bedroom to rest, Jay-Z and Combs entered with an unidentified female celebrity.
The suit states that Jay-Z restrained her while Combs assaulted her, but she managed to fight back, hitting Combs in the neck and fleeing the scene.
She reportedly ran to a gas station, where her father picked her up.
Combs’s legal team dismissed the allegations as a “reckless media circus,” accusing Buzbee of orchestrating a publicity stunt.
Both Jay-Z and Combs continue to deny the allegations.
Meanwhile, the judge overseeing the case has temporarily granted the plaintiff anonymity, though this status will soon be reviewed.
The accusations have drawn intense scrutiny, with many awaiting the next legal developments in this high-stakes battle involving two of hip-hop’s biggest names.
