Jermaine Dupri’s Take On Contemporary Female Rappers Elicits Backlash

Legendary producer Jermaine Dupri’s sentiments on the prevailing female rap scene have stirred mixed reactions from stakeholders and fans alike. The So So Def mastermind,in an interview, said that ”today’s female rappers are only rapping about the same thing,it’s like strippers rapping.”
Asked for his take as regards the new wave of contemporary female rappers,Dupri had less than flattering things to say. He intimated that all they have to offer is lyrics of them dancing in the club, coupled with lots of sexual innuendos. The comments obviously didn’t auger well with a myriad female rappers and as you wopuld expect,Cardi B was not about to take it lying down. Referencing her Be Careful cut from her Invasion of Privacy album,Cardi said people were quick to dismiss it on grounds that it was not her trademark sound and so given that, she would rather rap about her female genitalia as that is what people want to hear, and cheekily adding that “she is my best friend.”
His sentiments could be deemed rather biased given that male rappers from his heyday capitalized majorly on sex, drugs and violence-related lyrics. In retrospect,a lot of the new female rappers may not have much to put to the table, except thriving off of Instagram and YouTube.
