On Wednesday morning, the Kenya Airport Workers Union led a demonstration at the Airport against the Adani Limited Company, which has struck a deal with the government to revamp the JKIA airport and construct a new terminus.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Airline said they will continue to observe the situation and give an update on the affected flights.
“Kenya Airways would like to alert you that due to the action by some JKIA Staff this has resulted in some delays and possible cancellations of some of our flights for both departing and arriving passengers,” read the statement.
Operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were severely disrupted due to a formal strike by aviation workers, which began on Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday.
Long queues formed as frustrated travelers experienced significant delays in boarding and takeoff, sparking outrage and dissatisfaction.
The workers initiated a go-slow protest in response to the proposed lease of JKIA to Adani Group, an Indian airport operator.
Over the past few weeks, aviation workers have expressed their strong opposition to the plan.
However, government officials have clarified that the deal with Adani Group is limited to investments in a second runway and refurbishments of the current facilities at JKIA, not a full lease of the airport.
