US-based Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has joined others in expressing concerns about the anti-tax protests in Kenya.
She has rejected the proposed Finance Bill 2024 and has shared encouraging words amid the tension over the proposed tax measures, which aim to generate an additional 346 billion in revenue.
Kenyans have been rejecting the bill and calling on their legislators to do the same.
Lupita has acknowledged the impact of Gen Z in calling for change.
“I salute the Kenyan youth and I am grateful to them for coming together in an extraordinary way to stand up against the problematic Finance Bill 2024 as well as to defend and promote the democratic rights of the Kenyan people. “
She mourned the loss of lives and those injured offering her condolences
“I am extremely saddened that lives have been lost in the process and my thoughts are with the victims’ families. “
She called for constructive dialogue to address key concerns
“May the Government of Kenya aim to peacefully unify the nation by hearing and addressing the concerns about bad governance that are rightfully being raised,” she ended her statement by saying #RejectFinanceBill2024.
President Ruto on Tuesday night addressed the nation, saying the process had been infiltrated and hijacked by organized criminals.
He further added that the Government had mobilized all resources at its disposal.
The military was also deployed by Defense CS Aden Duale to aid the police in maintaining order in the CBD.
