Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes has reportedly been arrested in Madrid after allegedly stealing a mobile phone during a night out at the La Riviera nightclub.
According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the incident occurred in the early hours of September 8, at around 5:30 AM, following an altercation with a 58-year-old man.
The situation reportedly escalated when the man attempted to take a photograph of Nunes without his consent while in the nightclub’s restroom.
Nunes, 26, allegedly responded by snatching the man’s phone from his hands and refusing to return it. Eyewitnesses claimed that the situation quickly drew attention, leading to the involvement of local police.
Upon their arrival at the scene, authorities found Nunes still in possession of the phone.
Officers proceeded to handcuff the footballer and escort him to a nearby National Police station located in the Arganzuela district of Madrid for further questioning.
This incident comes at a time when Nunes is adjusting to life in the Premier League following his transfer to Manchester City.
The club has yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest, but the news has sparked considerable media interest given Nunes’s rising profile as a key player for both his club and the Portuguese national team.
The implications of this incident could have significant repercussions for Nunes, both personally and professionally.
Overall, it is fortunate that no one was hurt during this altercation, as confrontations in nightclubs can often escalate into more dangerous scenarios.
