The four men who were alleged to have visited marathoner Kelvin Kiptum days before he died have spoken out about their intentions at the marathoner’s home.

Three of the four men were arrested on Wednesday, Feb 14th, and they have revealed that their visit was business related.

Kiptum’s father Samson Cheruiyot confessed that about 4 men visited his son the day before the fatal accident.

‘He told the press that the men did not identify themselves.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Kiptum’s father said the group came to their home four days earlier looking for Kiptum but could not identify themselves.

They claimed to have come from the State House but could not produce identification to prove so.

He now wants the government to launch investigations into the death of his son.

The men together with their lawyer addressed the press after arrest, dismissing the father’s account of their visit.

One of the men claimed that they identified themselves to Mr Samson Cheruiyot.

He said that they even took official photographs to show their visit was harmless.

The men from Uasin Gishu county were identified by the police where they were taken in after arrest.

“I happen to have gone to the deceased home na tukawa na discussions mzuri sana. I even prayed we spoke na mwisho baba wa Kiptum pia akawa mtu wa mwisho kuomba. We were served tea, na tulikuwa na mazungumzo ambayo ilikuwa mzuri sana So after that I gave him my number and then after that, we took pictures outside the home. I was very shocked when I heard that that we were strangers”

One of the other suspects said that perhaps the old man had memory loss.

“We identified ourselves, gave our phone numbers, and even explained where our home is mpaka mzee akajua kwetu.I was very shocked when I saw it in the media that I was a stranger. But then I want to take this opportunity to say I know the old man perhaps said that because he is grieving. So I do understand that na juzi we decided to present ourselves to the police.”
