Two-time world and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon is celebrating her recent victory at the Paris Diamond League, where she broke her own 1,500m world record.
Her exceptional performance not only solidifies her status as one of the finest middle-distance runners but also sets the stage for significant financial rewards.
During the race, Kipyegon clocked an astounding time of 3:49.04, breaking her previous world record by seven-hundredths of a second.
In the final 200 meters, she displayed her championship pedigree by outpacing Australian runner Jessica Hull and setting a new record.
As the first-place finisher, Kipyegon will receive $10,000 (Ksh 1.27 million) from the Diamond League.
In addition, for breaking the world record, she is entitled to a minimum bonus of $50,000 (Ksh 6.3 million), offered by the Diamond League as an incentive for record-breaking performances.
The Kenyan government also recognizes the extraordinary achievements of its athletes through a special scheme
Kipyegon will receive Ksh 5 million (approximately $43,000) for setting a world record, adding to her personal and national pride.
Moreover, her success in Paris is likely to lead to further bonuses from her sponsors.
These sponsorship deals often include performance-based bonuses, especially for athletes of Kipyegon’s calibre who consistently break records and win medals.
Looking ahead, Kipyegon is focused not only on financial gains but also on making history.
She aims to be the first woman to achieve a hat-trick in the 1,500m at the Olympics and to claim both the 1,500m and 5,000m titles at a single Olympics.
These historic achievements would likely bring additional sponsorships and increase her marketability, enhancing her earnings potential.
