The father of the late Monica Kimani, Bishop Paul Ngarama has opened up about his grieving process and his decision to forgive his daughter’s murder Jowie Irungu.

He said he would visit Jowie who is currently in prison so they have a one-on-one with him and forgive him in the process.

In a recent interview with Kenya Diaspora Media in Seatle, Kimani’s father said;

“When I go back to Kenya, I will visit Jowie in prison and have a conversation because he is like my son.

I want this to be part of the reconciliation process among the three families– that is Jowie, Jackie Maribe( the person who was acquitted of the murder charges) and my family.

I want to spearhead reconciliation and bring the three families together. We must preach forgiveness and let the matter rest.”

According to Bishop Ngaramu forgiveness is a key element that helps one heal from their traumas and bad experiences.

He is currently in the US pursuing a PhD in Counselling Psychology at the Full Bright Theological Seminary. He will be graduating next year.

The bishop also added that he wrote a book about forgiveness and asked God to help him heal from the wound of losing a child.

He said;

“ After going through the pain of losing a child, I asked God many questions. God told me to forgive the killer, and I even wrote a book about forgiveness titled ‘Endurance in Grief’. Forgiveness was the hardest decision to make but it’s necessary for closure.”

Monica Kimani’s mother is also on her healing journey but her forgiveness wasn’t the soothing thing but the court orders gave her relief.

Jowie was sentenced to death on the 13th of March for the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani by Justice Grace Nzioka after all evidence pointed him as the murderer.

Jowie has filed a notice of appeal against his conviction and death sentence.

The notice was drawn by his advocate Andrew Muge on the 14th of March. His appeal read;

“Take notice that Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie appeals to the Court of Appeal against the decision of Honourable Lady Justice Grace Nzioka whereby the appellant was convicted of murder and sentenced to death on March 13, 2024”
