Media personality Murugi Mwinyi earlier today took to her Instagram page to fiercely support athletes who decided to run for other countries instead of their motherland.

According to her, athletes are underappreciated in Kenya and if one finds greener pastures in other countries they should not waste it and move with immediate effect.

The media personality was angered by Kenyans who went after Kenyan-born Winfred Yavi who won Gold for Bahrain In Women’s 3000m Steeplechase.

Netizens felt angered that she chose to run for another country yet Kenya desperately needed her support and her athletic gift.

She started the video by saying;

“If your country is failing you, if you can’t get access to finance, resources, training grounds and whatever it is that you need to be able to perform at your peak capacity you are doing yourself a disservice by continuing to remain in that country and are being underutilised or underutilising your own talents so I say go, girl.

Murugi added that most athletes have day jobs so that they could be able to make ends meet.

“The reality is that in other countries they take sports so seriously, people in Kenya literally have to be and am saying this from the point of knowledge when I used to work in rugby Saccos, people can not afford to make ends meet just by being a sportsman so they have day jobs then jioni they go and train while in these other countries, you are literally earning a living by being a sportsperson.

Sports is literally sustaining you and the government is pouring resources, time and money into helping these athletes succeed in the global lineage.”

She concluded her video by urging athletes to move to other countries, they should choose what benefits them.

“When I was looking at what other countries, my God!! Italy was paying someone who won gold 200,000 someone who won silver over 100,000 and bronze the same.

These are people who genuinely value their sportsmen and want them to focus on that. If you get an opportunity to change GO.”
