ODM claims 50 people have been abducted.

At least 50 Kenyans are allegedly being detained incommunicado after being kidnapped by security personnel, as claimed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

The party expressed its deep concern over what it described as the government’s repression of nonviolent protests across the country.

In a statement released in Nairobi on Tuesday and delivered by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the party urged the immediate release of the detained Kenyans.

“We condemn the ongoing arbitrary abductions of innocent Kenyans who are carted away in the most violent manner and held incommunicado for the day,” Sifuna stated.

“As we speak, reports are that upward of 50 individuals have been illegally abducted and their whereabouts unknown,” Sifuna continued.

On Sunday, President William Ruto denied allegations that his government had authorized kidnappings.

He stated that individuals who were detained had been rightfully arrested by the police for committing offences.

He also emphasized that while the Inspector General directly commands the police, they operate independently and do not simply follow his orders.

Additionally, following a meeting of the Central Management Committee of the Azimio party presided over by leader Raila Odinga, a statement was read by a senator from Nairobi.

The statement addressed the support for the recall of ODM MPs who voted in favour of the 2024 Finance Bill.
