President William Ruto has revealed why he attends a weekly gym session. 

He mentioned this during his address at the President’s Award at State House Nairobi, explaining that it was the reason for his late arrival at the event. 

Ruto emphasized that he regularly incorporates gym sessions into his weekly routine, attributing it to the positive impact it has on mental acuity and alertness. 

He stated, “I came in a bit late because I had a session at the gym. It is one of the things I do every week because it helps shape your mind, keep you alert.” 

This is the first time the President has publicly acknowledged his regular gym routine. 

After being elected President in 2022, Ruto experienced a noticeable weight loss. 

Responding to public speculation, he attributed this to irregular eating patterns during the intense campaign period, leading to weight gain over the course of nearly two years.

“I had an original fit that ran amok the last one and a half to two years. We went into elections and you know when you have elections there is a lot of pressure, sometimes you take out the pressure on food… You have to do this and that and you don’t have time to go and exercise and sometimes you eat. Because you don’t know when you will get the next meal, sometimes you overeat,” the President said during a roundtable interview.

According to Ruto, it was then that he decided to cut some weight.

He insisted that it was a deliberated decision, largely because of the tasks that awaited him as President.
