On Wednesday of 25th August 2021, a young man was allegedly killed by the police during demonstrations by the traders in Kahawa West, Kiambu county regarding the demolitions of their kiosks.

It was unfortunate on the morning of 8/25/2012 when traders woke up to their normal day and hustle for their families only to find demolished structures. The Nairobi Metropolitan Services had allegedly brought down the kiosks without giving the traders prior notice.

The traders were in deep shock and got frustrated , and lit bonfires, barricading the Eastern bypass road. In his aim to protest, the TukTuk man was shot dead by the police. This heightened the demolitions causing them to demonstrate whilst carrying the dead body.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority(IPOA) has launched investigations into the death of the man.

“Pursuit to Section 25 of IPOA Act which requires that deaths result from police action or are caused by members of the National Police Service while on duty be investigated, the Authority has launched investigations into the unfortunate death,” Anne Makori the IPOA chairperson said.

Meanwhile, IPOA says investigations are ongoing into the death of John who is believed to have been fatally assaulted by the police officers.
